Harry's Game Impresses

West Cornwall Golf Club and Cornwall Golf Union County player Harry Hall has enhanced his growing reputation by playing an integral part in a very convincing win for the Engalnd U16 Boys team against Ireland over the weekend. His performance capped a fine season for the team as they completed an unbeaten run sealing victory over Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Back in September Hall captained the English Boys to a 10-2 victory over Wales at Oswestry where despite losing in the foursomes with Gloucestershire’s Jamie Li Harry won his singles match 1 up over Tim Harry.

Then it was on to St Andrews for the match with Scotland earlier this month which resulted in an 11½ – 3½ victory for England. In the foursomes Harry was again partnered with Li and the pair won 4&3. In the singles Hall won his match 4&3 as the team took six of the ten singles points on offer.

The third match was played at The Links Portmarnock over the weekend against the Irish and again England came out on top, this time 13-3.

This time Harry was partnered both in the foursomes and the fourballs with Cheshire’s Lewis George. In the foursomes they won 3&1 before accelerating to a 6&4 win in the fourballs. Their performance and that of their team mates meant England led 7½ – ½ going into the eight second day singles in which five victories were achieved along with one half. Hall won his match by an impressive 6&5 margin.

“The boys did very well and it’s very pleasing to see the strength in depth we have in England Golf,” said England Boys Manager Derek Hughes. “Some of these lads are in the under 18 squad while others are on the fringe so these were very creditable performances where everyone played a part.”

Over the three internationals Harry won six of his seven games. Hall will be at the Cornwall Golf Union Dinner this coming Friday where he will be part of celebrations surrounding the County’s dramatic last day winning of the Channel League. Had it not been for national commitments Harry would have played in more than just the two matches for the county this year but the entire squad’s performance will be acknowledged when the Channel League winners Salver is presented to County Captain Steve Rickard.
